Day 2: Adaptation

So yesterday was my first night in Paris. I went to bed at 11pm, after a goodnight call with the hubby… I thought I could sleep right away, but it took me at least 3 to 4 hours to fall asleep!! The isolation is so bad that I heard EVERYTHING that happens on the street AND felt the cold all night long! I had to turn on the heat in the middle of the night! So yah, I think I fell asleep at about 3 AM and had to wake up at 7 AM… and as usual, I snoozed my alarm and woke up at 8 AM!! OMG, I was soooo sleepy and I looked AWFUL!!! I took 15 minutes to prepare and then rushed outside. At that time, I was so proud of myself as I was acting like a 100% Parisienne who knows her way and got on the metro like if I had lived there forever (...but I still got a little trouble when I had to change line from metro to RER, but that’s another story, lol)

So as I got to work, I learnt where my cubicle is, but I didn’t have a computer yet. So during all morning, me and other colleagues were at our own desk, sitting and waiting for the IT people work on our computer. During that time, we got the chance to do a tour of our department and to meet many employees and introduced ourselves. People there are really nice, I’m sure it’ll be very pleasant working with them.

At noon, we went to eat at the “cantine”. By the way, we are used to say, in Quebec, “déjeuner, diner, souper”… but French people say “petit déjeuner, déjeuner, diner”. So I was a bit confused when they say we go “déjeuner” at noon. lol For lunch, most companies in Paris have a “cantine” for the employees to eat and they offer many choices. And what’s the advantage for us is that it is totally reimbursed by the company! Look at what I had today! yummy..... I already know I will gain at least 10 pounds in this trip! haha

So in the afternoon, I finally had my computer, but no work yet (I didn’t understand why they had to give us the trainings on the first day we landed and not today, but oh well…) I still stayed until 5:15, but when I decided to leave, one of the colleagues came and asked us for a coffee break… ummm… pardon? A break at 5:15? lol Well, to not reject myself, I went to the break but I stayed only 5 minutes because I had an appointment with my cousin Winnie. So actually, I still rejected myself…

Arg…I getting tired now… but I have to finish telling you my day cuz I don’t want to skip this post again... so I'll make this quick. In summary, I met with my cousin Winnie after work, we went to Monoprix to buy ear plugs so I can sleep better tonight, then we found a place to eat, and she came visit my apartment. She lended me her cellphone and a hair dryer… so now, I can go take a shower and wash my hair, and hopefully have a nice dodo tonight.

Bonne nuit!

  2. Ça l'air bon ce que tu manges. Comment tu vas faire ton régime? La bouffe est pas mal meilleur de ce que je fais pour toi. Je l'avoue...

À 5:15, presque tout le monde de mon bureau est parti!
